Bluebell Recycling Page
The Bluebell Railway is justifiably renowned for its fantastic collection of vintage carriages. We still have over 20 pre-nationalisation carriages stored in the open - to conserve them for the future it is vital to get them under cover as soon as possible.
The Cash For Cover Appeal is to raise money to make a substantial start on the Horsted Keynes Carriage Shed Extension, by constructing the shell and roof of the building. The overall project is known as Operation Undercover Phase 4.
Some generous benefactors promised matching funding for the first £125,000 donated to this project, but only if the donations were made by mid-November so the Double Donations Dash DDD125 was run as the first part of the appeal. We have now achieved the DDD target! However there is still more to be raised to complete the project, so please continue to give generously!
The aim is to put up the supports and the roof over four proposed roads and the current maintenance road. With the first £125,000 now raised, together with the match funding of £125,000, we have sufficient to put up the shed structure and half the roof, and cover 10 carriages. Constuction work should commence in 2015.
If by the time construction starts we have raised an additional £100,000 (so reaching £350,000) then we can complete the roof and thus provide cover for 20 carriages, meaning that virtually all of the pre-nationalisation coaches on the Bluebell can be placed under cover. That will not complete the project, of course, since we also need to raise the funds to build a component store, office, trim shop, add walls and roller-shutter doors to complete the project, building on this tremendous start.
There is still a long way to go to reach our target. Any donation, small or large, will be very welcome. The Keep up the Pressure campaign is helping to restore our locomotives. This appeal will conserve the carriages for our locomotives to haul, and in which our passengers will travel. So please help us get our carriages under cover, and donate now.
In partnership with PrinterCartridge Recycling Ltd a leading recycling company, we have developed a scheme to turn your empty inkjet and toner cartridges into valuable funds to help continue our work.
If you would like to help us raise funds for The Bluebell Railway whilst at the same time reducing the amount of electronic waste consigned to landfill.
Recycling in larger volumes
If you are looking to recycle in larger volumes i.e. quantities of 50 or more inkjet cartridges, you must ensure that you check the lists above to ensure that what you are sending in is accepted on the scheme. If your items are eligible, please call us on 0333 323 7677 to set up a free recycling account. Once your account is in place, you will be able to access online instructions on how to package your items and how to arrange a free courier collection. All proceeds would go to The Bluebell Railway.
